This morning in church was very harsh on power, with an Irish tune and modern words about conquerors being dethroned and the world being turned.  Lots of change and disruption imagery through the readings and other hymns.  Very grateful for the people who make it happen, for the revolutionaries, the martyrs, the change workers.  Grateful for the women  who ensured that I could practice law, vote, have a say in my children's lives, own property.  For those who made change for the oppressed, for those of color, for the two men covered in the paper this morning who lived without being able to express their commitment publicly from the 1940s to this century and became the face of change.  Very glad I do not live in silence, in fear, in the expectation of rejection.  But also very glad that I am not called to such overwhelming change and revolution personally.  Glad to be able to work on forming my own and other's children in service, to work with them in service, to talk with them about values, but so glad not to be the one on the front lines of dramatic change and methods.

Grateful for stability in life, one job since 1985.  One secretary since 1986, one husband since 1994, one house since 1997.  Grateful for all those who made it possible.
